Notes from writing Power

“POWER” is the opening chapter of DATURA 02, the follow-up to her 2025 debut DATURA 01.

First recorded on Amami Island with the studio doors open, the birds you hear are real — folded into the track as it was being written.

Built around the refrain “you hold all the power,” it moves from restrained spoken-word minimalism into a sub-bass-led drop — tension into controlled release.

Created during a self-directed residency across Japan, China and Singapore, the project draws on research into Nüshu — a historical women’s script developed to communicate covertly under patriarchal constraint — translating ideas of voice, authorship and coded language into electronic form. Minimal 140 rhythms and spacious production privilege deep listening over spectacle.
